APEC ministers responsible for food security reached consensus on measures to strengthen food systems across the region at the 11th APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting in Hangzhou. The meeting focused on strengthening rural infrastructure, supporting agri-food sector development, and improving public services in rural areas.
Innovation and digitalization were also important priorities. Ministers supported the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and agricultural biotechnology to strengthen the resilience of food systems. They welcomed principles focused on using innovation and digitalization to improve food system resilience across the APEC region.
Fisheries and aquaculture were also recognized as important for food security. These sectors provide high-quality nutrition, create employment opportunities for regional communities, and increase the supply of fish and other aquatic products.
